Lakewood Golf Club To Host Junior Golf Alabama Kickoff

Lakewood Golf Club, Point Clear, AL: Site of the Junior Golf Alabama Kickoff, Feb. 25-26, 2023

POINT CLEAR, AL – (Feb. 24, 2023) The Junior Golf Alabama Kickoff, the first event of Junior Golf Alabama’s (JGA) 2023 JGA Tour, will be held at Lakewood Golf Club, in Point Clear, Alabama, Feb. 25-26, 2023.

The Junior Golf Alabama Kickoff marks the first event of the inaugural JGA Tour, the competitive component of the JGA. The JGA Tour is a collaborative tour operated by the Alabama Golf Association and Alabama-NW Florida PGA Section. The tour is designed specifically to remove barriers, such as cost, while also offering premier junior golf tournaments at some of the finest facilities in Alabama and NW Florida. 

The JGA Tour is open to all girls and boys ages 6-18 that reside in Alabama or the Florida Panhandle (west of Apalachicola) and have an active GHIN® number through the Alabama Golf Association or the Florida State Golf Association.

The 2023 JGA Tour will feature a total of 9 events across the state of Alabama and NW Florida. 

From February 25-26, 2023, 52 junior golfers from across the state of Alabama and NW Florida will compete within six different Age Divisions: Male 14-18, Female 14-18, Male 9-13, Female 9-13, Male 6-8, and Female 6-8.
 
Tournament Eligibility:
Entries are open to any male or female golfer who is a legal resident of Alabama or the Panhandle of Florida, west of Apalachicola, has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an Alabama Golf Association or Florida State Golf Association member club and qualifies under the following age requirements:
  • 14-18 Age Division: Must have reached 14th birthday, but not 19th birthday, on or before February 25, 2023.
  • 9-13 Age Division: Must have reached 9th birthday, but not 14th birthday, on or before February 25, 2023.
  • 6-8 Age Division: Must have reached 6th birthday, but not 9th birthday, on or before February 25, 2023.  
Approximate Yardages & Course/Slope Ratings: 
  • Male 14-18 Age Division | 6726 yards (36-36–72) | 73.0/134
  • Male 9-13 Age Division | 5678 yards (36-36–72) | 67.0/122 
  • Male 6-8 Age Division | 4393 yards (36-36–72) 61.6/105
  • Female 14-18 Age Division | 5678 yards (36-36–72) | 73.4/123
  • Female 9-13 Age Division | 5089 yards (36-36–72) | 70.1/115
  • Female 6-8 Age Division | 4393 yards (36-36–72) 66.2/107
Format:
  • 36 holes of gross stroke play for players in the 9-13 and 14-18 Age Divisions.
  • 18 holes of gross stroke play for players in the 6-8 Age Division
  • The lowest score for the 36 holes will be the Champion. Any ties in divisions will be resolved by matching scorecards according to the USGA recommendation within the Committee Procedures of the Rules of Golf – “Matching Scorecards.”
  • Initial groupings will be for Round 1; players will be repaired by score for the Final Round.

Saturday, February 25, 2023
Round 1: Tee times begin at 7:30 a.m. off #1 and #10.
Field re-grouped according to score.
 
Sunday, February 26, 2023
Round 2: Tee times begin at 7:30 a.m. off #1 and #10.
 
Prizes and Awards:
  • Top three in Male Age Divisions: 6-8, 9-13, 14-18
  • Top three in Female Age Divisions: 6-8, 9-13, 14-18
About Junior Golf Alabama (JGA)
Established in 2022, Junior Golf Alabama (JGA) is a joint initiative by the Alabama Golf Association and the Alabama-NW Florida PGA Section to serve as a collaboration focused on junior golf for kids, parents, coaches, golf administrators, and PGA Professionals. By creating new educational, instructional, and playing opportunities, JGA streamlines the junior golf roadmap while bridging existing programs to further the development of junior golf in Alabama and NW Florida.
